The KingSize Five

“A Manic mix of rocking blues and jazzy, dirty swing delivered with riffed up panache” Molloy Woodcraft, The Observer

Swings, shocks and sass accompanied The Kingsize Five following the release of their debut album CD, ‘White Light Fever’ on Little Genius Recordings via Genepool/Universal late in 2008. The band hope to build further momentum with their first release in 2009 (June 15th) which comes with a surprise thumbs up from AC/DC’s Angus Young: The new EP not only features two versions of lead track Big Sis Little Sis, one of the critically acclaimed highpoints from the last album, but also a hard swinging cover of AC/DC’s :Whole Lotta Rosie.

The collective have garnered support from radio tastemakers like John Kennedy, Steve Lamacq and Shaun Keaveny, and have placed their caustic genre-crossing mix of swing, jazz, ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll, punk and blues, firmly on the map. Their first and second single both went to number 1 in the iTunes Blues charts.

Glowing reviews have included Q, The Metro, The Observer, Time Out, Blues Matters, Rock n Reel, Artrocker and The Word Magazine, who also cover-mounted the first single I Am A Missile. Funnily enough, this track also made it into the Teletext/Drowned in Sound Top 50 singles of 2008 at number 23 ahead of Fleet Foxes!!

The band have also picked up radio all over the world in such far flung places as The USA, Russia, Croatia, Israel, Germany, Mexico and Brazil as well as in the UK with support from Radio 2, XFM and a good 15 plays on BBC 6 Music .

In 2009, the band is confirmed for Glastonbury on two nights, on the Word Stage at The Cornbury Festival, the Barbican International Jazz and Blues festival, Secret Garden Party and 15 other festivals.

It is clear then; The Kingsize Five are not an ordinary musical incarnation. They’ve travelled through the musical mill and emerged jaded yet loud, belligerent yet skilled. A ramshackle haven for ex-stand-up comedians, burlesque dancers, gaolers and media moguls, Smash Hits stickers and ice cream men; yet also chancers who have played in everything from The Fratelli’s, Bad Manners, Boy George, The Cinematic Orchestra, King Kurt, Apollo 440, Jools Holland Big Band and Blur. They have lived, failed (seven major record deals between them!) and now stamp on skinny white boys playing punk electric guitar.

The Kingsize Five are Michael Brown, Danny Howard, Coach Crowe, Coach Kelly, Paula Daunt, Husky Sarah, Zoe Alexandria, Paul Silver, The O’Neils, Jamie Wortley, Alon Brazil and any other individuals with talent and tenacity who come their way.

“Outrageous, different and very, very good” Carol Borrington, Blues Matters

“Ungodly infectious melodies. The most entertaining band I’ve ever seen? Damn right!” Lee Puddefoot, Artrocker Magazine

"Mighty, mighty refreshing" John Kennedy, XFM

"Stomps like a super charged cabaret horn section. When they really let rip, as in potty mouthed Glen Miller pastiche Big Sis Little Sis, they hit home with bawdy theatrical panache" (4 stars) Thomas H Green, Q Magazine

"Amazing: I predict this will spread through the country like a virus"
Shaun Keaveney, BBC 6 Music Breakfast Show

"A bunch of musical rogues!" Steve Lamacq, Radio 2 New Music Show

"A veritable slice of jazz infested, good time swing" Mischa Pearlman, Fly Magazine

"if you don't own a pair of dancing shoes, this will inspire you to buy some."
Jon Blackstaffe, Blues in Britain Magazine

Just the sort of thing for the discerning music fan’s Friday night out. An album of intelligent fun, something in all too short supply these days. Treat your feet and your brain” (4 stars) Jeremy Searle, Rock n Reel

“Sardonic retro combo deliver their brand of bluesy boogie woogie with punkish energy, to brash and brassy effect. Think Jools Holland with speed in his whiskey and you're not far off; this is feel-good party music given a shot of cool, if slightly knowing, humour” Time Out
