"The city's best loved Storyteller" Brighton Argus
Armed with just a guitar, a harp, a voice that sits somewhere between Vincent Price and a young Richie Havens a loop pedal and a bag full of twisted tales, cutting edge Storyteller and musician Daniel Clark (of acclaimed quartet 'The Hat') explores, with you the audience, a series of really quite remarkable worlds.
Daniel Clark comes from a family of professional writers and poets. From an early age he gravitated towards storytelling and writing, inspired by myths and legends from around the world and the short stories of writers such as H.G Wells and Roald Dahl. He has performed as a musician since he was a child on a variety of instruments and for the past eleven years has sought ways of combining story with soundtrack.
This journey has took him through a career as a professional musician ( he has played on various albums including mercury nominated ‘Beloved One’ by Lou Rhodes and has soundtracked shows for companies including award winning Company FZ); as a storyteller and writer (he has written plays and stories for companies including Flying Eye and Twitter) and as a performer (he has played at venues including The Spiegeltent, The ICA and The Bush Hall and studied for a year with innovative theatre practitioner Jonathan Kay)
In 2005 he formed band The Hat- an innovative 4 piece band that combined his stories with contemporary live music scores. The band’s sound-tracked stories were released worldwide on Sunday Best Records, and saw them tour the Uk with acts including Michelle Shocked, The Bees, The Noisettes and The Mystery Jets. In 2007 he was commissioned by The Famous Spiegeltent to write and perform a one man show. The resulting piece- ‘The Things People Do To Fall In Love’, (directed by Company FZ’s Flick Ferdinando) was an hour long show comprising of 9 interlinking short stories. It was debuted at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival.
He plays a variety of instruments including guitar, harp, double Bass & banjo. He regularly performs as a storyteller performing his pieces, and is currently touring his new one man show, which combines longer form stories with self composed & executed sound tracks.
"A touching Social commentary…. This subtle, honest well-observed piece is sure to touch the heart of even the coldest audience member."
